A Stop Animation Snowboard Film
Created By: Paul & Stephen Gemignani

The Filming Process:
We started with actual sequence photos of Paul riding (taken by his brother Stephen). Then we printed each frame of the sequences on paper and cut out the rider from each one, which we used to re-create the sequences with different backdrops, creating the stop animation effect used in the video – a very SLOW process. It was challenging at times, but it came together in the end. We hope you like the film. ENJOY!

Creating Something With My Brother:
- Priceless -

The idea was to create a night photography timelapse video featuring his most popular subjects in this amazing country: the fairytale-like quivertrees and the eery, dead camelthorn trees in Deadvlei – something that had never been done before. But instead of going for static scenes, Marsel decided to add movement to the scenes by using a dolly system.

All scenes were shot during the night with Nikon D3, D3s and D4 cameras. We used small headlights for selectively lighting trees and rocks, and we sometimes used the moon. The brighter the scene, the more moon there was at the time. For the arch scene we timed our shoot exactly with moonset, which involved quite a bit of calculating and planning. But the hardest one of all was probably the mist scene in Deadvlei. Mist in Deadvlei only occurs around five times a year, so we had to keep a close eye on the weather predictions and many attempts were unsuccessful. When we finally got it right, the results far exceeded our expectations and show Deadvlei as no one has ever seen it before.

Each second of video consists of 30 photographs. In total, Marsel shot more than 16,000 images over a period of two years for this project.

The video won First Prize in the 2012 Travel Photographer Of The Year Awards.

Navene used to be the drummer for Animals As Leaders, and is working on a solo project where he plays acoustic drums with a MIDI controller to trigger synths/baselines. He is focusing on having live performance based pieces. This is what we wanted to capture with On Smash.

This whole project has been an amazing experience. The two of us became friends through Vimeo and explored a shared interest in timelapsing Yosemite National Park over an extended period of time. We’d like to expand this idea to other locations and would appreciate any suggestions for a future project.

Very cool video from Vimeo. Using stop motion photography, Vituc edited a great short. Music by Reid Willis truly makes this film come to life. Notes from the creator below.

A few weeks ago I got this little thing…with which you can almost do everything…even going back in time… ;-)

Not to toot my own horn here, but I updated the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile video and just love this little experimental video.

Using the new Panasonic AG-AF100, I captured the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile parked in the Target parking lot at Atlantic Station in Atlanta, Georgia.

I synced the video footage with the original Oscar Mayer Wiener commercial audio from the 1960′s. This video was created for pure entertainment purposes only.

Enjoy!
